Jack-O's Review: "One of my favorite films, love everything about it, the comedy, the horror, the special effects, Devon Sawa really sells that his hand is possessed, love Seth Green and Elden Henson scenes, Jessica Alba looks great, fantastic Halloween atmosphere, jack o lanterns, Halloween dance, costumes, my favorite decade of music 1990's that I still listen to today and It was filmed in the same location as Halloween (1978). Just brilliant! I give it ★★★★★." @trickhorrortreater
Reviews:
"Since this is part of the post-Scream era of studio horror, Idle Hands has its tongue practically bursting through its cheek. The main characters are hapless ‘90s stoners...and the entire mood of the movie is lighthearted and cornball. It’s pretty obvious that the film’s Halloween setting is meant to evoke that holiday’s impish attitude. So much of the movie feels like a trip to your neighborhood’s haunted house attraction...it’s a movie that really does capture the childish fun of horror and Halloween. For those who enjoy unrestrained effects and a jokey tone, Idle Hands is one of the best offerings out there...it might be time to give this movie a cult following." Bloody-Disgusting.com
"...Idle Hands comes in fast with some awesome special effects, some gross but fun body gore, and a storyline that although is riddled with plot holes and unanswered dead parent locations, still has that cute 90s charm that comes with the teen horror trend of the time...So in the lead up to Halloween, you may not want to be balls deep in the serious suspense and gore that a lot of films lay on thick, and if you have seen Tucker and Dale vs Evil too much and are looking for a little more light-hearted fun...but with death, then look no further, for Idle Hands encapsulates the campy, gory, horror vibes we all sometimes crave." ★★★ UKFilmReview.co.uk
"The movie has energy and is probably going to attract a young audience, especially on video, since the R rating will keep away some viewers in its target audience, which is junior high school boys... Kids understand this kind of macabre comedy–which is in the ancient horror spoof tradition–and they don’t take it seriously; any viewer capable of being influenced by such silly gags would have to be deeply disturbed already. The only thing this movie is likely to inspire a kid to do is study Fangoria magazine to find out how the special effects were achieved." ★★½ RogerEbert.com
"...it’s difficult for me to decide if I “like” it, or even if I think it’s “good,” because I am very much not in the target audience. Even as the vast majority of the comedy falls flat for me, the horror is better than it has any right to be. The practical special effects are very well done..Unfortunately, it isn’t enough to sustain the movie past about the midway point, when Anton cuts off his hand; after that, the movie devolves into a boring chase scene between the hand and Anton, his undead friends, a rival biker, and Vivica A. Fox, who is playing a Druid priestess who has a special dagger that can kill the hand. Don’t ask, cause I don’t have the answers." Medium.com
"One thing I was impressed with were the special effects. It was clear that the filmmakers wanted everything to be as realistic as possible while embracing the absurd and boy do they pull it off admirably...The film itself is a nonstop horror comedy fest that wastes no time getting to the point...director Rodman Flender finds a way to make it work creating what feels like the perfect blend of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Evil Dead. That coupled with a great score by Graeme Revell who handled all of the best films of the time including The Crow and The Craft...Bottom line, Idle Hands is a product of it’s time and one you have to go into just looking for a fun film to watch."
