VHS SYNOPSIS: This mesmerizing horror adventure takes you into the terrifying dark side of rock'n'roll. Marc Price (Family Ties) stars as Eddie Weinbauer, a teenage outcast who idolizes Sammi Curr, a heavy metal rock superstar. After Sammi dies a violent death, his spirit returns to help Eddie get even with his high school tormentors. In doing so, Sammi begins to gain control over Eddie's life and brings him deeper into the world of the occult. When Eddie realizes that he has become the tool of Sammi's evil revenge, he attempts to stop him. The horrifying events that follow leave no one unscathed. Special guest appearances by rock superstars Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne and a dynamic heavy metal soundtrack make Trick Or Treat a horror classic.
WIKIPEDIA: Trick or Treat is a 1986 American horror film by De Laurentiis Entertainment Group, starring Marc Price (known for his role as 'Skippy' on the situation comedy Family Ties) as Eddie Weinbauer, Elaine Joyce (as Eddie's mother), Doug Savant (of Melrose Place and Desperate Housewives fame) as Tim Hainey, the popular bully responsible for much of Eddie Weinbauer's angst, Alice Nunn as Mrs. Sylvia Cavell and Lisa Orgolini as Eddie's love interest, Leslie Graham. Director Charles Martin Smith (known for his acting roles in motion pictures such as American Graffiti and Never Cry Wolf) takes the helm of this project as his directorial debut. In a brief credited cameo, Smith plays the high school principal, killed by a bolt of electricity fired from Sammi Curr's guitar during the Halloween dance.
Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P. was to originally play undead rock icon Sammi Curr but declined. Gene Simmons was then offered the role, but he did not think much of the script and ultimately agreed to do only a cameo as radio DJ, Nuke. Simmons later said in an interview that he chose to play the role as a childhood hero of his. After long debate, the role of Sammi Curr went to Tony Fields, a former Solid Gold dancer and one of the stars of A Chorus Line. Ozzy Osbourne also has a cameo as a televangelist decrying the evils of heavy metal music. All Sammi Curr music was composed by the band Fastway and upcoming composer Christopher Young.
Release:
The film was released theatrically in the United States by De Laurentiis Entertainment Group in October 1986. It grossed $6,797,218 at the box office. It was released on VHS by Karl-Lorimar home video the following year. Then released on DVD in the United States by Platinum Disc Corporation in 2002. This version is currently out of print. Some people believe the DVD cover to be misleading because it shows Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne starring in the movie, when actually they only make very brief cameo appearances. On the back of the DVD artwork are also scenes from the making-of. Anchor Bay Entertainment was all set to release a 20th Anniversary DVD in 2006, but due to music copyrights, the release was cancelled. Anchor Bay so far has no plans to release any kind of DVD. In 2014 a German Limited Edition Mediabook was released with 3-discs (Blu-ray, DVD and CD soundtrack).
